Nerve Conduction (NC)Tests
Nerve conduction tests are the “gold standard” diagnostic tool for the assessment of neuropathies, such as Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathies, Carpal, Cubital and Tarsal Tunnel Syndromes. Neurodiagnostic testing is also useful in the evaluation of back pain or sciatica, helping to determine the presence of nerve root involvement in cases of lumbosacral radiculopathy and lumbar spinal stenosis.

Recently, our clinic acquired a NC-stat System from the NeuroMetrix Inc. for performing standard nerve conduction test. The system has three key components that work seamlessly together to accurately and rapidly evaluate peripheral nerve function. This enables patients receiving nerve conduction tests in our clinic setting within 15-30 minutes to help confirm the clinical assessment of peripheral nerve disorders and expedite appropriate medical care

Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) Examination

Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD), a type of Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD), is a common condition that affects 8-12 million people in the US every year. PAD is the leading cause of leg amputation and is more common than heart disease, cancer and stroke. It is characterized by narrowing of the arteries in the legs caused by plaque build-up, which leads to claudication (pain in the calf while walking) of the arteries. The disease process is often referred to as Atherosclerosis.

PAD is a serious under-diagnosed, under-treated disease. Undetected PAD is associated with a two to three fold increase in mortality and a three to five fold increase in heart attack and stroke, along with severe declines in quality of life. The most common test to diagnose PAD is the Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) examination. We recently obtained a Summit Doppler ABI Examination System, which is a simple noninvasive test performed with a Doppler and blood pressure cuffs. The test measures the systolic pressures at the lower and upper extremities and documents blood flow configurations. If the ankle systolic pressure is lower than the arm systolic pressure the patient could have some stage of peripheral vascular disease. A quick calculation chart is used to determine if the results are normal, if not, further diagnosis will determine the severity of peripheral vascular disease.

The American Heart Association (AHA) and American Diabetes Association (ADA) have both recommended annual ABI screenings for patients with Diabetes, patients with at high risk factors including high blood pressure, smoke or have previous heart disease or patients over 50 years old. All of these risk factors are cumulative.

Uroflowmeter

Flowmaster Wireless Uroflowmeter is using to evaluate urinary bladder, urethra, and prostate functions and assist physicians in the diagnosis of various diseases causing urinary tract obstructions and disorders.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an essential part of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is based on ideas and theories formulated over thousands of years in China and other Asian countries, now in USA and other western countries. Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles into specific sites on the body chosen according to the guiding principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Needles may also be used with an application of moxibustion, an herbal heat source, or sometimes an electrical pulse is combined with the needles for increased stimulation.
